Stimulus watchdog project
Environment Maryland staff were deeply involved in the campaign to pass the federal stimulus package: the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This bill invests $33 billion in clean energy, $27 billion in energy efficiency, $19 billion in green transportation, and $6 billion in water conservation and clean water.
We will now invest time encouraging state policymakers to spend the money on transportation that revitalizes older communities instead of transportation that encourages sprawl; on water projects based on sound science, not sound bites; and on truly viable clean technologies, not false marketing campaigns.
We will also follow up on the federal level as Congress goes from investment to policy, considering a series of major energy, climate, transportation and clean water bills.
