Land preservation initiative

Forested wilderness in western Maryland, rural communities on the Eastern Shore, and rolling farmland in central Maryland are some of the incredible places that are important to our environment and our heritage.

Unfortunately, many of these places are at risk from development. Our forests and farms are becoming strip malls and parking lots, while the bay and other natural treasures suffer from the collateral damage.

Environment Maryland launched a campaign to protect our most valuable natural areas while we direct future growth to areas that can handle new development.  We are working to get legislators and state agency officials to endorse our plan to make rural land designations permanent, and to improve plans for future growth.
