Saving national forests

Thanks to our federation’s work, more than 1.5 million citizens nationwide called on the Clinton administration to protect pristine areas in our national forests, resulting in the Roadless Rule. When the Bush administration attempted to overturn the rule, we worked with governors in seven states to petition to protect their forests.

America's First Ever Cap and Trade Auction for Global Warming Pollution Generates $16 Million for Maryland 9/29/2008

Officials at the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative revealed the results this morning of last week's historic auction of global warming pollution credits. Maryland sold 5.3 million allowances in this first auction, resulting in $16 million in revenue. The Maryland Energy Administration intends to use the revenue for measures that will lower costs for consumers, such as helping citizens and businesses save energy and promoting renewable energy.
