In Maryland and across the county, much of our electricity is used to power our buildings. And much of this energy, whether it's cooling our house or heating our water, is lost through the inefficiencies, leaks, and cracks in our homes. This inefficiency costs us money, but it also means we're generating more dirty energy from coal-fired power plants, needlessly pumping CO2 into the atmosphere.
We have the technology and know-how to develop super-efficient buildings, we just need the political will. Maryland took a step forward last year by adopting energy efficient building codes, and this fall, we have an opportunity to be leaders across the country at a building codes conference in Baltimore.
