Solar energy represents one of the best long-term hopes for Maryland to slash its consumption of fossil fuels and emissions of carbon dioxide, as well as providing stability to the electricity system.
Solar energy is also practical for Maryland. Baltimore, for example, receives enough solar radiation that a typical solar module can produce enough power to cover one-third of a household’s annual electricity needs, with periods of highest generation on hot summer days coinciding with periods of greatest demand for air conditioning. Pollution savings per household would be roughly equivalent to taking 12 medium-sized cars off the road per year. Solar panels on homes across the state could dramatically boost renewable energy generation and reduce our statewide contribution to global warming.
Let's make it easy for Maryland to Go Solar. With sensible solar roofs, we can move away from the dirty energy of the past.
We can providing incentives for clean energy jobs and take Maryland's economy into the 21st Century.
With a building code conference in Baltimore in November, Maryland's delegation can be a leader on green buildings. Let's turn old, drafty buildings into money savers and energy producers.
