For too long, roads have been prioritized and funded at the expense of transit. The federal government spends nine times more on highways and roads than it spends on transit. With gas prices on an ever upward march and cars and trucks causing one third of our global warming pollution, it's time to focus on transit.

Letter Dear Representative, In the last few years, we've seen an explosion in the understanding for the need to rethink our transportation priorities at the national level. In February, Congress promoted transit at an unprecedented scale, $8.4 billion in funding for rail and transit services. President Obama has outlined a network of high-speed rail lines connecting major parts of the country and included $5 billion dollars in his budget for project studies. Clearly, it's time for a concerted investment in our transit infrastructure. As the federal transportation bill moves through Congress, Environment Maryland will work to change the way transit is funded to give it a fair share of the pie. Sincerely,
