Environment Maryland and our allies have launched a campaign to promote smart growth and permanently protect the most valuable natural areas in the state. We need to demonstrate widespread public support.

I have seen too many meadows and farms paved over for more strip malls and subdivisions. We need to get serious about preserving the most valuable natural areas in the state.

Communities put tremendous effort into updating local growth plans every few years, but public offi cials too often ignore those plans and approve developments that run counter to the community vision for growth.

I urge you to pass legislation that prohibits local officials from approving developments that are inconsistent with local growth plans.
